CHILD AIRLIFTED FOLLOWING SERIOUS ROLLOVER CRASH NORTH OF PITTSFIELD

PITTSFIELD, ILLINOIS — A young child was airlifted following a serious single-vehicle rollover crash early Saturday on County Highway 3 between Pittsfield and New Salem.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the area after a truck left the roadway and came to rest in a cornfield. Initial information from the scene indicated children were among the occupants of the vehicle and at least one child suffered injuries.
A medical helicopter was called to the crash scene for a four-year-old boy who reportedly suffered a head injury. The vehicle was reported to have rolled multiple times before coming to rest.
Pike County Highway 3 runs north from Pittsfield to New Salem.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Department had not issued a public press release on the crash as of early Saturday morning, and authorities have not publicly released the name of the driver, the number or identities of the other occupants, the hospital to which the child was transported, or an updated condition.
The cause of the crash also remains unknown.
