Old Winchester Gym Demolished, Marking End of an Era for Local School Community

WINCHESTER, Ill. — A longtime piece of Winchester school history came down Tuesday as the old Winchester gym was demolished.

The gym had stood for generations as part of the local school campus and was remembered by many in the community as the site of school events, practices, games, assemblies, and everyday student life over the years.

The demolition marks the end of an era for Winchester schools, while also clearing the way for the district’s next steps in addressing facility needs at Winchester Grade School.

The Winchester school board is scheduled to meet Thursday, July 9, with facilities-related items on the agenda, including presenting and approving a bid for a multi-purpose building at Winchester Grade School and naming that new facility.

While the old gym is now gone, its place in the memory of generations of Winchester students, staff, families, and fans remains part of the community’s story.
