PITTSFIELD SAUKEES CAPTURE IHSA GOLF REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

PITTSFIELD, Ill. — The Pittsfield Saukees are bringing home an IHSA Regional championship after winning Wednesday’s boys golf regional at Mt. Sterling.
Pittsfield was led by a pair of outstanding individual performances. Junior Brody Tomhave fired a 69 to finish second overall, while junior Colby Hayes carded a 75 and claimed third place.
The two have been among the leaders of the Saukee lineup throughout the season. Hayes opened the year by shooting a 73 and tying for third at the D.A. Weibring Invitational, while Tomhave posted a 78 in the same tournament as Pittsfield finished third as a team.
Wednesday’s performance was even stronger when the stakes were highest, with Pittsfield taking the regional team championship and continuing its postseason run.
The Saukees were celebrating with a team meal before returning to Pittsfield Wednesday evening. School officials said a fire truck welcome would be waiting for the regional champions at the airport upon their return.
The championship adds another highlight to what has already been a strong season for Pittsfield golf and sends the Saukees into the next round of IHSA postseason competition.
