UNBEATEN SHOWDOWN: CALHOUN AND BROWN COUNTY COLLIDE FRIDAY NIGHT

MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — Two unbeaten western Illinois high school football teams will square off Friday, October 16, when the Calhoun Warriors visit the Brown County Hornets for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Both teams enter the matchup with 8-0 records after decisive victories in their latest outings. Calhoun shut out Jacksonville Routt 67-0, while Brown County defeated North Greene 40-7.
Calhoun jumped out quickly against Routt, scoring 42 points in the opening quarter and taking a 48-0 lead into halftime. Jake Brannan, Easton Wallendorf, Lane Eilerman, Ian Gilman and Will Lorton were among the Warriors who scored in the first quarter.
Brown County has also shown offensive firepower this season, including a narrow 30-27 victory over Camp Point Central on September 25. Calhoun survived a tough 14-3 game against Greenfield-Northwestern earlier in its campaign.
The meeting carries extra history. Brown County edged Calhoun 14-13 in the 2025 Class 1A state semifinals, giving the Warriors another chance to face a familiar opponent.
Calhoun has secured the Western Illinois Valley Conference South Division championship, while Brown County has been a leading team in the North Division. Both are looking to carry momentum into the Illinois high school football playoffs.
Friday night in Mount Sterling will leave one team with a perfect 9-0 record heading toward postseason play.
