BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green Board of Aldermen has named a new chief of police, signaling the latest leadership change in local law enforcement following recent departures at the top of area departments.

At its latest meeting, the board appointed Corporal Chris Beard as the new chief of police for the city’s police department. Beard said he is honored by the appointment and looks forward to serving the Bowling Green community in his new role.

“I’m grateful for the confidence the board has shown in me, and I plan to work hard every day for the safety and well-being of our residents,” Beard said in a statement following the vote.

Beard steps into the position at a time of transition for law enforcement leadership in the region. Over the past months, several police chiefs in nearby jurisdictions have stepped down, prompting internal promotions and searches for new leadership. Local officials say leadership stability is critical for community safety and positive morale within departments.

According to Bowling Green aldermen, Beard brings years of experience with the department, having served in multiple roles that familiarized him with both patrol operations and administrative duties. Board members praised his understanding of community needs and his commitment to building strong relationships with residents.

“Chris has demonstrated dedication and professionalism throughout his career here,” one alderman said. “We believe he will continue to uphold public trust and lead our officers with integrity.”

City council leaders say Beard’s appointment came after an internal review and discussion about the department’s direction. The board unanimously supported his elevation to chief.

Residents attending the meeting expressed optimism about the decision, noting Beard’s familiarity with the community and his visibility in local events.

The Bowling Green Police Department handles public safety services for the city and works in cooperation with other area agencies, including Pike County Sheriff’s Office, for broader law enforcement coverage in rural areas.

Beard’s appointment follows a trend of leadership shifts among police agencies throughout the region, reflecting ongoing challenges and opportunities as agencies adapt to evolving public safety demands.
