Bowling Green Police Chief Chris Beard is looking toward modernization as he leads the city’s police department, with technology, training and updated resources part of a broader effort to keep the agency equipped for modern law enforcement.

Beard was named Bowling Green’s police chief in 2026 after previously serving with the department as a corporal and K-9 handler. The department’s current mission emphasizes community-oriented policing paired with intelligence-led policing, with operations that include patrol, K-9, narcotics, investigations and command staff.

The push toward updated equipment is not starting from scratch. Bowling Green’s recent capital planning has included investments in police technology and equipment, including computers, cellphones for full-time officers, body cameras, dash cameras and an equipped police vehicle. The city has also considered additional law-enforcement technology and training proposals as officials evaluate the department’s needs.

The department is also recruiting officers. A recent city recruitment notice says Bowling Green supports its police department with training, resources and modern tools, while emphasizing professional policing and strong relationships between officers and the community. Beard’s office is located at the Bowling Green Police Department, 15 West Church Street.
