VIRGINIA, Ill. — Cass County voters will decide a contested race for county treasurer and select representatives in each of the county board's three districts when they go to the polls Tuesday, November 3.

The treasurer's contest is between Kristen Petefish and Kelly Warden. Petefish is Cass County's chief deputy treasurer and has emphasized her experience in the office. Warden has stressed financial administration, transparency and the way county services are delivered to residents.

The county treasurer handles the receipt and disbursement of public money, including property-tax collections, payments and county financial records. Decisions in that office affect a wide range of county services and the public's ability to track tax dollars.

In County Board District 1, the candidates are Cathy Gibson, incumbent Bob Schultz and Paul Rice. District 2 voters are choosing among incumbents Kim Hance and Gary Noe and challenger Phillip Murray.

District 3 includes incumbents Bill Merriman and Amanda Ruppel and challenger Jon Stock. Candidates across the board contests have discussed spending, property taxes, maintaining essential services, local development and accountability in county government.

The different races offer county residents an opportunity to shape decisions involving public safety, budgets, infrastructure and economic development. Individual candidate priorities differ, and voters should review each race rather than treat all board contests as a single countywide vote.

The general election takes place November 3. Voters seeking polling-place, registration and ballot information should check with the Cass County Clerk and Recorder's Office in Virginia.
