FRIDAY THE 13TH STRIKES AGAIN — THREE TIMES IN 2026

If you’ve already spilled your coffee, locked your keys in the car, or just have a bad feeling about today, the calendar might be to blame. Friday the 13th has returned — and in 2026, it’s not a one-time event.

This year delivers the maximum number possible: three Friday the 13ths, landing in February, March, and November. That only happens when the year starts on a Thursday, which puts the unlucky date on repeat. The last time it happened was 2015, and it won’t happen again until 2037.

Of course, Friday the 13th has a long reputation for bad luck, complete with a scientific-sounding fear name — triskaidekaphobia — for those who really don’t care for the number 13. Combine that with a Friday, and some folks take extra precautions, whether that means avoiding ladders, skipping travel plans, or just staying home and keeping their expectations low.

But here’s the good news: studies over the years haven’t found convincing evidence that Friday the 13th is actually more dangerous than any other day. In fact, some research suggests people may be more careful on Friday the 13th, leading to fewer accidents — not more. In other words, the bad luck might mostly live in our heads.

The superstition itself goes back centuries, with roots in religious tradition, folklore, and a whole lot of storytelling. Over time, it’s become part fear, part pop culture, and part running joke — especially for anyone who enjoys horror movies or a little dark humor.

So what should you do on Friday the 13th?Probably the same thing you do on any other Friday — just maybe double-check your alarm clock, keep an eye on your step, and enjoy the fact that a simple date on the calendar can still get people talking.

And if today doesn’t go your way, don’t worry — you’ll get two more chances to blame it on Friday the 13th later this year.
