GREENE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR METH POSSESSION

CARROLLTON, Ill. — A Greene County man has been sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to a felony methamphetamine possession charge.

Greene County State’s Attorney Craig M. Grummel announced that 57-year-old Donald G. Dawson was sentenced Monday, August 10, after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class 3 felony.

The case stems from an April 12 incident in Greene County in which Dawson was found in possession of less than five grams of a substance containing methamphetamine.

Grummel said methamphetamine continues to cause serious damage to individuals,

families and communities throughout the region, adding that the sentence was intended to hold Dawson accountable while also recognizing the importance of substance-abuse treatment.

The Greene County State’s Attorney’s Office credited the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Department and White Hall Police Department for their work and cooperation in the case.

Dawson will serve his sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
