Mark Haddock, a longtime Louisiana resident and community volunteer, is seeking the office of mayor with a focus on steady leadership, civic pride, and moving the city forward.
Haddock moved to Louisiana as a sixth grader, graduated from Louisiana High School in 1970, and later served two years in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. He earned an associate degree in cardiopulmonary studies and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri before building a career in sales and marketing. After retiring, he and his wife returned to Louisiana, where they have become deeply involved in community service.
His civic involvement includes leadership roles with the Louisiana Alumni and Friends Association, the Louisiana Historic Museum, the Buffalo Township United Fund, the Methodist Church, Rotary, and as co-director of the Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner. Haddock says community engagement and leading by example are central to his approach to public service.
Haddock describes his leadership style as calm and collaborative, emphasizing listening, professionalism, and respect. He views the mayor’s role under Louisiana’s council–manager form of government as that of a facilitator and ambassador who works closely with the city council and city administrator rather than directing daily operations.
On transparency and public trust, Haddock says rebuilding confidence begins with professionalism, lawful transparency, and consistent communication. He supports regular ward meetings and informal neighborhood gatherings to give residents a stronger voice in city affairs.
In public safety, Haddock supports strong training, community policing, and greater visibility by officers. He has expressed interest in establishing a K-9 unit, strengthening relationships between police and residents, and introducing a school resource officer focused on mentorship rather than enforcement.
Haddock believes Louisiana can better balance historic preservation and economic growth by making greater use of state programs, historic tax credits, and regional partnerships. He also emphasizes responsible budgeting, local purchasing, and leveraging outside funding to minimize the tax burden on residents.
Looking ahead, Haddock says his vision is for a clean, well-maintained city where residents feel proud of their community and confident in city leadership. He believes the city’s biggest challenge is moving beyond past divisions and working together toward a stable and positive future.
WBBA News also submitted the same mayoral questionnaire to fellow candidate Woodrow Polston. His full responses have already been published and are available on our website and social media platforms
