JACKSONVILLE MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN FEDERAL CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL CASE

JACKSONVILLE, IL — A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison following a federal investigation into child sexual abuse material that began with an online tip in June 2025.
Daniel Brannan, 48, also received ten years of supervised release and was ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution and a $300 special assessment.
Investigators began examining online activity after a tip to the Illinois Attorney General's hotline concerning the sharing of child sexual abuse material. An FBI agent's affidavit traced activity to an email account and internet protocol address associated with Jacksonville.
Investigators obtained legal authorization to examine conversations on the Kik messaging service. Federal investigators described exchanges involving how to locate illegal material online.
In December 2025, authorities searched Brannan's electronic devices and reported recovering nearly 100 files containing child sexual abuse material. According to the account of the investigation, Brannan acknowledged ownership of the devices and files after his arrest.
Brannan pleaded guilty June 10, 2026, to all three counts in the federal indictment. The latest development is the sentence announced Friday, October 2.
The prison term and supervision order represent the outcome of a case that progressed from an online tip to a federal investigation, search warrants, guilty pleas and sentencing.
