PIT1TSFIELD — The Pittsfield Police Department has added a new narcotic detection canine to its team, expanding the department’s enforcement and public safety capabilities.

Officer Mackenzie Moore and K9 Maverick recently graduated from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Canine Academy. Maverick is a three-year-old Labrador and Belgian Malinois mix trained in narcotics detection and will be deployed alongside Officer Moore in law enforcement operations.

City officials said the addition of the canine unit was made possible largely through a significant donation from Whitetail Properties, with special thanks extended to Jeff Evans and his team for their support in helping fund the program. The department also acknowledged the Troy, Illinois Police Department for donating a police canine kennel used to safely transport Maverick while on duty.

Police officials said the new canine unit will enhance proactive policing efforts and assist in narcotics-related investigations throughout the community.

The Pittsfield Police Department welcomed K9 Maverick to the force and thanked all partners involved in making the program possible.
