HARDIN — A man is facing multiple charges following a domestic disturbance involving a firearm in Calhoun County.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, West Central 911 Dispatch received a report of a domestic disturbance in progress involving a firearm. Deputies responded and arrived on scene at approximately 2:20 p.m., where Chief Deputy Chris

Barnes identified and detained a male suspect while conducting an investigation.

Authorities say the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit to process the scene and collect evidence.

Following the investigation, 68-year-old Ronald N. Smith of Hardin was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful restraint, and domestic battery causing bodily harm.

Smith was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Pike County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office also thanked civilians on scene who assisted in de-escalating the situation, along with West Central 911 Dispatch and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit for their assistance.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges may be amended as the case proceeds.
