Masked Man Breaks Into Roofing Trailer at Meredosia School

MEREDOSIA, Ill. — Meredosia-Chambersburg school officials say a masked man broke into a contractor’s trailer on school property, marking the district’s second break-in in about a month.

Principal Kirk Graham told the school board that surveillance video shows an older man wearing a hood and face covering using bolt cutters to break the lock and latch on a box trailer behind the school.

The trailer belongs to a company completing roof work at the school and was being used to store construction materials. Graham said the trailer contained only roofing supplies and drinking water at the time, and nothing valuable was reported stolen.

The incident was reported to Meredosia Police Chief Derek Suttles. Authorities believe the man may have been searching for tools or other equipment to steal. The roofing company’s insurance is expected to cover damage to the trailer.

The attempted burglary comes about a month after a separate break-in at Meredosia-Chambersburg High School. Police arrested a 13-year-old boy on June 5 after money was reportedly taken from a water machine and a filing cabinet inside a school office.

No arrest has been announced in the latest incident. Anyone with information or who recognizes the person shown in surveillance video is encouraged to contact the Meredosia Police Department.
