MISSOURI — Missouri farm families whose land has remained in the same family for at least a century are being encouraged to apply for recognition as a 2026 Missouri Century Farm, a designation honoring multi-generational agricultural heritage and long-term stewardship of the land.
Applications for the 2026 Missouri Century Farm program opened February 1 and will be accepted through May 1. To qualify, the same family must have owned the farm continuously since December 31, 1926. Ownership may pass through children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces or nephews, including through marriage or adoption, as long as the land has remained in the same family line.
Eligible farms must include at least 40 acres of the original land acquisition and must make a financial contribution to the overall farm income. Program organizers say the designation recognizes not only longevity, but the continued role family farms play in supporting Missouri’s agricultural economy and rural communities.
The Missouri Century Farm program is sponsored by the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, MU Extension’s Ag and Environment team, and the Missouri Farm Bureau. Since the program began in 1976, more than 10,000 Missouri farms have received the Century Farm designation.
Approved applicants receive a commemorative certificate, a metal Century Farm sign, and a booklet recognizing the farm’s history. These items are typically presented through local MU Extension offices. A fee is required to cover the cost of materials.
More information and the online application are available through MU Extension, and questions can also be directed to local MU Extension centers.
