NEW AGRICULTURE FACILITY EXPANDS HANDS-ON LEARNING AT GRIGGSVILLE-PERRY HIGH SCHOOL

GRIGGSVILLE — Agriculture students at Griggsville-Perry High School are getting their first full semester of hands-on experience inside a new, modern agriculture facility that replaces a decades-old building and significantly expands learning opportunities for students.

The new ag building, which is now attached directly to the high school, was unveiled near the end of last semester after crews completed construction and demolished the former standalone structure that had been in use for roughly 80 years. School officials say the upgraded facility provides more space, improved safety, and access to modern equipment that was not possible in the older building.

The facility includes eight welding booths equipped with fume extractors, a fully functioning greenhouse, and a new classroom designed to support hands-on instruction. Students say the added space and updated layout have made a noticeable difference compared to the previous building, which lacked insulation and left little room for growing class sizes.

District leaders say planning for the new ag facility began about two years ago, a project that initially seemed unlikely given the financial challenges many public school districts face. Construction began in March of last year, and the new building was ready for student use before the end of 2025.

With the expanded space, the ag department expects to offer more classes and accommodate additional students, including those who may not have previously considered agriculture courses. Educators say the new facility allows stronger connections between agriculture, science, and technology, helping students build practical skills that can translate into future careers.

For many students, the upgraded facility provides an opportunity to continue family traditions in welding, mechanics, and agricultural work, while also preparing for a wide range of career paths after graduation.
