NEW PHILADELPHIA BOARD MEMBER HONORED BY JACKSONVILLE NAACP

JACKSONVILLE, IL — Dr. Brittney Yancy, a member of the New Philadelphia Association Board of Directors, has been recognized by the Jacksonville NAACP's Women in the NAACP (WIN) Committee as its Woman of the Third Quarter.
The recognition honors Yancy's leadership, community involvement, and dedication to preserving African American history. Her work spans public history, education, and community engagement, with particular emphasis on connecting historical scholarship with the communities whose stories it tells.
As a board member of the New Philadelphia Association, Yancy contributes to efforts to preserve and promote the history of New Philadelphia, the historic Pike County, Illinois, community founded in 1836 by Frank McWorter, a formerly enslaved man who purchased his freedom.
The association congratulated Yancy in a September 25 announcement, praising her commitment to preserving Black history and making historical education accessible and meaningful to the public.
Yancy's recognition also highlights the continuing importance of preserving New Philadelphia's history and the contributions of those working to share that history with future generations.
