Residents of Pike County who are interested in emergency services or public safety have an opportunity to receive professional training at no cost.

The Pike County Ambulance Service is offering an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course, with free tuition available to Pike County residents. The course is designed for individuals who want to learn how to respond during medical emergencies and provide initial care until advanced medical help arrives.

The EMR course is scheduled to run from March 10 through May 19, 2026. Classes will be held two evenings per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., making the program accessible to participants who work during the day.

All classes will take place at the Pike County Ambulance Service facility, located at 24085 365th Street in Pittsfield.

Emergency Medical Responders play an important role in emergency response systems, often serving as the first trained individuals on the scene of medical emergencies. EMRs are trained to assess patients, provide immediate life-saving care, and assist higher-level emergency medical personnel when they arrive.

Officials say the course is a strong opportunity for anyone interested in emergency medical services, public safety, or community service, as well as those who may be considering future involvement with EMS or other first responder roles.

Individuals who would like additional information or wish to register for the course can contact the Pike County Ambulance Service directly by calling 217-285-6336, extension 2, or by emailing KKendall@pikecountyil.org.
