Pike County, Illinois Republicans Searching for County Clerk Candidate

PITTSFIELD, Ill. — The Pike County, Illinois Republican Party is looking for a candidate for county clerk after current Pike County Clerk and Recorder Natalie Roseberry announced she will not seek re-election.

Pike County, Illinois Republican Chairman Andy Borrowman says the party does not currently have a candidate for the office, but is actively searching for someone willing to run.

Borrowman said the difficulty in finding a candidate is not unexpected, adding that filling local offices has been a challenge for both parties. He said the county clerk position may not pay as much as some other opportunities, but does come with good benefits and the opportunity to serve Pike County, Illinois.

Democrat Brenda DeSpain is already a candidate for the office, meaning the position will be filled even if Republicans do not name a nominee.

Republicans have until August 20 to submit a candidate.

Roseberry said in a written statement that serving as Pike County Clerk and Recorder has been one of the greatest honors of her life. She said she will continue serving through the end of her current term.

Roseberry said a primary factor in her decision is her commitment to completing law school, preparing for admission to the bar, and pursuing a career in the legal profession. She also pointed to broader challenges in county government, including the need for transparency, collaboration, trust, and confidence in shared financial information.
