PLEASANT HILL, IL — The Pike County Health Department and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency will hold a used tire collection Wednesday and Thursday, October 21 and 22, at the Pike County Fairgrounds in Pleasant Hill.

The collection will operate from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days. According to the health department's announcement, all tire sizes will be accepted.

Organizers say the collection is intended to reduce the nuisance of mosquitoes by removing discarded tires that can collect standing water and provide mosquito breeding sites.

The health department thanked the Pike County Fair Board, Pike County Board and township road commissioners for their assistance. For questions, contact Lynette Johns at the Pike County Health Department at 217-285-4407, extension 117.
