PITTSFIELD, Ill. | Pittsfield freshman Elle Sanderson is headed to the IHSA Class 1A girls golf sectional after shooting an 80 at Tuesday's regional tournament at Shambolee Golf Course in Petersburg.

Sanderson earned an individual qualifying spot in the Rochester Sectional, scheduled for Monday, October 5, at Lincoln Greens Golf Course in Springfield. Her performance puts a Pittsfield golfer in the next round of the Illinois high school postseason.

Brown County's Hope Ingram also advanced individually after recording a 91. Other individual qualifiers at the Petersburg regional included Routt freshman Kendyl Mudd with a 79, Rushville's Karissa Harrison, and golfers from Jacksonville and PORTA. Quincy Notre Dame won the team championship, while Illini West and Pleasant Plains also advanced as teams.

The Rochester Sectional is the next stage on the road to the Class 1A state tournament. Sanderson will compete among golfers advancing from regional events, with qualifying positions for the state finals at stake.
