BOWLING GREEN — Tom Thompson has officially filed to run for mayor of Bowling Green in the upcoming April municipal election and, as of the close of filing, is the only candidate seeking the office. Thompson, a longtime local business owner and part owner of A Taste of Philly, said his decision to enter the race is rooted in a deep commitment to the city and a desire to help guide its future growth. He has identified the Bowling Green Municipal Airport as a key economic asset, pointing to its location along the Avenue of the Saints as a competitive advantage that could attract additional air traffic and business investment if properly developed. Thompson said he would like to see expanded use of the airport through projects such as additional hangar space that could be leased or rented, creating a new revenue stream for the city, while acknowledging that infrastructure and facility upgrades would be necessary to support increased activity.
Beyond aviation-related development, Thompson said housing is another area that deserves attention, noting that Bowling Green needs growth that is both practical and visually appealing. He emphasized that he does not support large-scale “cookie-cutter” housing developments, instead favoring well-designed homes and buildings that add character and make the community more attractive to residents and visitors alike. Thompson also addressed potential concerns about his son, McCoy Thompson, who currently serves as an alderman and is running for a second term on the city council, saying both men would operate independently and transparently if elected. He stressed that the mayor only votes in the event of a tie and said he would rely heavily on collaboration with the board of aldermen, using their input to stay informed and make sound decisions for the city. Thompson said his goal, if elected, is to serve openly, listen closely to community needs, and work steadily toward long-term improvements that strengthen Bowling Green’s economy and quality of life.
