NEW BERLIN, Ill. — Pittsfield’s varsity boys football team earned its first win of the season Friday, September 25, beating New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly 25–14 on the road. The Saukees improved to 1–5, while the host co-op fell to 0–6.
Pittsfield did most of its damage on the ground. According to the game statistics posted by MaxPreps, the Saukees rushed for 360 yards on 31 carries, an average of 11.6 yards per attempt. All four Pittsfield touchdowns came on rushing plays. The team added 35 yards through the air for 395 total yards of offense.
Junior Kody Anderson led Pittsfield with 179 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Sophomore Ryker Wyatt carried nine times for 131 yards and two scores. Together, the two accounted for 310 of the Saukees’ 360 rushing yards and all four touchdowns. Senior Nick Merryman added 48 yards on four carries. Anderson completed five of 10 passes for 35 yards, with Collin Bernard making three catches for 24 yards and converting a point-after kick.
Pittsfield’s defense recorded 11 tackles for loss and two sacks in the posted statistics. Merryman led the Saukees with 14 total tackles. Lane Frieden had eight tackles, including three for loss and a sack. Carter Fraizer added six tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Pittsfield also lost two fumbles on offense, making its ability to keep producing yards on the ground an important part of the 11-point win.
The result reversed last season’s meeting, when New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly beat Pittsfield 27–14. The Saukees are scheduled to return home Friday, October 2, to face Maroa-Forsyth at 7 p.m. The available box score identifies the scorers and team totals but does not provide a verified play-by-play account of Friday’s scoring sequence.
