SPRINGFIELD, IL — Illinois State Police say enhanced traffic enforcement conducted during September in Morgan, Sangamon and Adams counties resulted in 257 citations or arrests along with 75 written warnings.

Troopers conducted nighttime enforcement patrols, occupant-restraint details, alcohol countermeasure enforcement and roadside safety checks. Nighttime patrols resulted in 72 citations or arrests and 33 warnings, while occupant-restraint patrols produced 75 citations or arrests. Alcohol enforcement resulted in 43 citations or arrests, and roadside safety checks produced another 67.

Across the four enforcement campaigns, State Police reported four arrests for driving under the influence, 28 other alcohol or drug citations, 20 occupant-restraint offenses, seven distracted-driving offenses, 46 registration violations, 35 driver’s-license violations and 32 insurance violations.

State Police say the enforcement efforts are intended to reduce impaired driving and increase seat-belt and child-restraint compliance. Additional nighttime patrols and roadside safety checks are planned.
