TROY, MO — A Troy man is facing two felony domestic assault charges following an October 2 incident in which deputies say a woman was choked, thrown against a garage wall and repeatedly thrown to the ground.

James Bryan Hurst is charged with second-degree domestic assault, a Class D felony, and third-degree domestic assault, a Class E felony. He was being held in the Lincoln County Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond set by Judge Michael R. Jacobs.

Deputies were called to a Troy-area residence shortly before 1:30 a.m. for a reported domestic assault. According to the allegations, Hurst was found outside the residence and taken into custody.

Deputies located the woman nearby inside a vehicle that had sustained substantial damage, including scratches, a broken driver-side mirror and a shattered windshield. Investigators say she appeared shaken and was having difficulty breathing.

The woman told deputies the confrontation began inside a detached garage, where she alleged Hurst threw her against a wall and then repeatedly threw her to the ground. She further alleged that Hurst pulled her by the hair, placed his hands around her neck, covered her mouth and forcefully grabbed her face.

A deputy documented red marks along the woman’s face and neck. She also reported pain in her elbow but declined medical treatment.

The woman further told investigators that Hurst had previously threatened to burn down both her home and her parents’ home if she left him. She also alleged that he monitored her location and retained screenshots showing where she had traveled.

The woman declined to provide a written statement or request charges at the scene. Hurst was nevertheless transported to the Lincoln County Jail for booking and processing.

The case remains pending in Lincoln County Associate Circuit Court. The charges are allegations, and Hurst is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
