BOWLING GREEN — A Bowling Green family is receiving community support after a house fire early Tuesday morning left a mother and her three sons without a home or personal belongings.
Bright Futures Bowling Green says the fire destroyed everything inside the home, forcing the family to start over. The household includes a single mother and three boys currently enrolled in Bowling Green schools — an 11th grader, a 7th grader, and a 4th grader.
The Bright Futures program has already stepped in to provide immediate assistance, purchasing several new outfits for each family member along with shoes, socks, underwear and other essential clothing items to help them get through the first days after the loss.
Program leaders say the focus right now is on helping the family meet immediate needs while they work through next steps following the fire.
Community members who want to help are being asked to provide monetary donations, gas cards, or gift cards to grocery stores or restaurants. Organizers say these forms of support are the most useful right now because the family does not yet have a place to store furniture, clothing, or other household goods.
Donations can be dropped off at the Bowling Green Elementary School office and marked for Becky Orf, who is coordinating support for the family through the Bright Futures program.
Bright Futures Bowling Green says the community has a long history of stepping up to help local families during difficult moments, and organizers are hopeful that support will continue as this family begins the process of rebuilding.
