PITTSFIELD — Drivers in both Pike County, Illinois and Scott County, Illinois should prepare for delays beginning Wednesday as bridge painting projects get underway across the region.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that work will begin on multiple bridges, including the 150th Street overpass in Pike County, Illinois, as well as the U.S. 54/Illinois 107 overpass and Interstate 72 bridges over Illinois 100 in Scott County, Illinois.
The 150th Street overpass is expected to be completed first, followed by work on the Scott County bridges in sequence.
During the painting process, lane closures will be in place on each structure, which is expected to slow traffic significantly at times. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, seek alternate routes when possible, and allow extra travel time if crossing these bridges is unavoidable.
Transportation officials say the work is part of routine maintenance to preserve bridge structures and ensure long-term safety for motorists throughout the region.
