MOUNT STERLING — The Brown County Lady Hornets are headed to the IHSA Class 1A State Finals after a commanding 51-39 victory over West Central in the super-sectionals, marking a historic milestone for the Lady Hornets basketball program.

Brown County controlled the tempo throughout much of the contest, using disciplined defense and balanced scoring to keep West Central at bay. The Lady Hornets executed in key moments, forcing turnovers and converting in transition to maintain momentum. Kenzie Kassing led the offensive effort, while the team’s defensive intensity set the tone from the opening tip.

The night was also significant for senior standout Hope Ingram, who reached the 1,000-point milestone during postseason play — a testament to her leadership and consistency in a Lady Hornets uniform. Teammates and coaches emphasized that while individual achievements are meaningful, this team’s focus has remained squarely on advancing together.

With the win, the Lady Hornets advance to the state semifinals in Normal, carrying one of the strongest records in program history. The opportunity to compete on the state stage represents a defining chapter for Brown County girls basketball and for the Mount Sterling community that has rallied behind this team all season.

For the Lady Hornets, the job isn’t finished — but the journey has already secured its place in Brown County history.
