PITTSFIELD — Multiple burn bans have now been enacted across the WBBA listening area as dry conditions and strong winds continue to increase the risk of fast-moving fires.

Fire officials across the region say a combination of low humidity, dry vegetation, and gusty winds has created dangerous conditions where even small outdoor fires can quickly spread out of control.

In Adams County, the Camp Point and Payson Fall Creek Fire Protection Districts have issued burn bans, while Greene County and Brown County have also implemented restrictions due to elevated fire danger and recent fire activity.

In Pike County Illinois, portions of the county—including the New Canton area—are now under burn restrictions as local fire departments respond to heightened concerns about fire spread.

Under these bans, all open burning is typically prohibited, including brush piles, yard waste burning, bonfires, and recreational fires. Officials note that propane and charcoal grills are generally still allowed but should be used with caution.

Fire officials are urging residents across the region to avoid outdoor burning entirely until conditions improve. They also remind residents that burn ban violations can result in fines and place neighboring homes, property, and first responders at risk.

Authorities stress that public cooperation is critical during these conditions, as a single uncontrolled fire could quickly threaten entire communities.
