JUPITER, FL — The St. Louis Cardinals have signed manager Oliver Marmol to a two-year contract extension that will keep him under contract through at least the 2028 season, with a club option for 2029.

Marmol, 39, has led the St. Louis Cardinals for four seasons and holds a 324–323 record during that span — a mark just one game over .500. The Cardinals reached the National League Wild Card round in his first season in 2022 but have not returned to the postseason in the three years since.

St. Louis finished 78–84 last season, marking the second consecutive year the club has missed the playoffs while working through what team leadership has described as a “reset” period. Team president Chaim Bloom has emphasized long-term development of a younger core as the organization transitions from the tenure of longtime executive John Mozeliak.

In a statement, Bloom praised Marmol’s commitment to organizational standards and player development, noting his willingness to challenge both himself and those around him. The extension provides stability at the managerial level during a period of roster turnover and front office restructuring.

Among National League managers, Marmol now ranks as the third-longest tenured behind Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Torey Lovullo of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Both Roberts and Lovullo have guided their clubs to multiple postseason appearances during their respective tenures.

Marmol has been part of the Cardinals organization since 2007, managing in the minor leagues before joining the major league coaching staff in 2017. He was promoted to manager in October 2021.

While the extension signals confidence in continuity and long-term growth, the coming seasons will determine whether that stability translates into sustained postseason success for a franchise historically accustomed to October baseball.
