Alvin “Basil” Barnd, 87, of Roodhouse, Illinois, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at White Hall Nursing and Rehab. He was born October 8, 1939, in Drake, Illinois, the son of Alvin F. and Theresa Reese Barnd. He married Helen L. Mercer on June 25, 1960, in Granite City.


He is survived by his wife, Helen Barnd of Roodhouse; two children, Gerald Barnd of Pekin and Greta Pridemore of Quincy; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Roodhouse, with interment to follow at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Daws Family Funeral Home in Roodhouse is assisting the family.



Martha Jane Wyatt Couch, 83, of rural Louisiana, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born October 12, 1942, to Hurschel and Edith Wyatt. She married Richard Couch on May 12, 1973, in Bowling Green, Missouri, and he preceded her in death.


She is survived by her children, Lewis Motley of Lavaca, Arkansas; Tony Motley, Celia Gerber, Penny Roan, Marcy Burleson, and Toni Shepard, all of Louisiana, Missouri; and Elizabeth Bowen of Bowling Green, Missouri, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two children, and two grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Missouri, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.



Bonnie Sue Magee Turner, 89, of Louisiana, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Maple Grove Lodge in Louisiana. She was born March 27, 1936, in Curryville, Missouri, the daughter of Howard Magee and Iva Margaret “Marge” Walker Magee. She married William Forest Turner on August 7, 1955, at the First Baptist Church in Louisiana, Missouri, and he preceded her in death.


She is survived by three children, Janet Levin of New Bloomfield, Missouri; Patricia Schrag of Golden Eagle, Illinois; and William Forest Turner Jr. of Centerville, Georgia, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a great-grandchild.


Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Missouri, with burial at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.



Marilyn Ann Wort, 93, a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Illinois Veterans Home. She was born August 20, 1932, in Pea Ridge Township of Brown County, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Eulalia Fitzsimons Nolan. She married James Joseph Wort on July 28, 1953, and he preceded her in death.


She is survived by three sons, Jerry Wort of Quincy, Edward Wort of St. Charles, Missouri, and Jeff Wort of Beardstown, Illinois, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three children.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling. Inurnment will follow in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
