Flock Camera Lead Helps Louisiana Police Solve Hit-and-Run Case

LOUISIANA, Mo. — A lead generated by a Flock Safety license plate reader helped Louisiana police identify the driver involved in a July 8 hit-and-run crash that caused more than $3,400 in damage to a parked vehicle.

The collision happened in the parking lot of a Louisiana business. Surveillance video captured the crash, but investigators were initially unable to clearly identify the suspect vehicle’s license plate.

During the follow-up investigation, officers reviewed information collected by the Louisiana Police Department’s Flock camera system. One of the cameras had recorded the vehicle near the time of the collision, providing investigators with the lead needed to identify the vehicle and its owner.

Officers later located the driver, confirmed the vehicle’s involvement and obtained the driver’s insurance information. Police provided that information to the victim, allowing a claim to be filed for approximately $3,428.65 in damage.

The Louisiana Police Department said the victim could have otherwise been left responsible for thousands of dollars in repair costs.

Police emphasized that license plate readers do not replace traditional investigations. Instead, the cameras provide officers with another tool for identifying vehicles potentially connected to reported crimes and other incidents.

The department said it remains committed to using technology responsibly to hold offenders accountable and improve public safety.
