SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Gregory M. Gilmore has been sworn in as U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois.

Gilmore was nominated January 13 by President Donald Trump and confirmed May 18 by the U.S. Senate. Illinois Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth both supported the confirmation.

Gilmore had already been serving as acting U.S. Attorney after Gregory Harris retired in January following a little more than three years in the position.

Gilmore said it is an honor to serve as United States Attorney for the Central District of Illinois, saying the office’s mission is to do justice, ensure community safety, and safeguard the rights of victims.

Gilmore is a longtime federal prosecutor. He previously served as first assistant U.S. Attorney from 2018 to 2021, civil chief from 2013 to 2015, and criminal supervisor of the Springfield Division from 2007 to 2010.

Before attending law school at DePaul University, Gilmore worked as an accountant for a big-four accounting firm in Chicago and for the FBI.
