CARROLLTON — A Greene County man has been sentenced to prison following a conviction for a sexual abuse offense, according to the Greene County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Lloyd L. Speaker was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after being convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony. The charge carried a possible sentence ranging from probation up to seven years in prison.
Officials say the court considered the nature of the offense, the impact on the victim, and other statutory factors before determining that a prison sentence was appropriate in the case.
Under Illinois law, the conviction requires Speaker to register as a sex offender.
Greene County State’s Attorney Craig Grummel commended the victim for her courage in coming forward and seeing the case through to sentencing, noting the lasting impact such crimes can have on victims.
The State’s Attorney’s Office also recognized the efforts of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, the White Hall Police Department, and the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault for their roles in the investigation and support of the victim.
Officials say the sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense and reinforces the county’s commitment to protecting victims and holding offenders accountable.
