JERSEYVILLE — A Jerseyville man who works for the Jerseyville Public Library has been charged with multiple counts of possessing child sexual abuse material following an investigation by state and local authorities.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced charges against 42-year-old Adam Hurley of Jerseyville, who is accused of possessing child sexual abuse material. Prosecutors have filed 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, each a Class 2 felony that carries a potential penalty of up to seven years in prison.

According to the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, investigators with the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and officers from the Jerseyville Police Department executed a search warrant Thursday at Hurley’s residence in Jerseyville. Authorities say investigators discovered evidence of child sexual abuse material during that search, and Hurley was taken into custody.

Hurley is currently being held at the Jersey County Jail, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

Officials say Hurley has been employed as a library assistant at the Jerseyville Public Library since 2013. Library officials say the charges are not related to his job at the library and that the allegations are not connected to any activities at the facility.

According to the library, Hurley has been placed on unpaid leave and no longer has access to the building.

Library administrators also say a forensic review of Hurley’s workstation at the library found no evidence of illegal activity on library systems.

Investigators say anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact Special Investigator Larry Rayburn at 217-843-0350.

The case is being prosecuted jointly by Assistant Attorney General Jennifer Peck and the Jersey County State’s Attorney’s Office.
