LOUISIANA — Voters in Louisiana and Silex will head to the polls April 7 to decide on separate school-related proposals focused on safety, infrastructure, and funding needs.
In the Louisiana R-II School District, voters will consider Proposition A, a no tax increase bond issue that would allow the district to borrow $1.5 million for upgrades.
Planned improvements include electrical panel upgrades at multiple buildings, enhanced security features such as updated entrances and camera systems, new exterior doors, and improvements to parking lots and drainage. The district also plans to purchase new desks and chairs for older elementary students.
In the Silex R-I School District, voters will decide on Proposition OWLS, which addresses ongoing financial needs. District leaders say the measure is designed to help meet increasing state-mandated minimum salary requirements for teachers, along with rising insurance and operational costs. Funds generated would go toward salaries and benefits for teachers and staff.
Both measures will appear on the April 7 municipal election ballot, and school officials are encouraging residents in both communities to review the proposals and participate in the vote.
