LOUISIANA — The Louisiana City Council has delayed action on the city’s proposed 2026–2027 operating budget after questions were raised about funding for the Louisiana Police Department.
Council members met in special session Friday night to consider the proposed budget. During the meeting, Ward 4 Councilman John Phillips made a motion to table the budget vote until additional information can be presented regarding the police department portion of the spending plan.
The motion received a second and passed unanimously, meaning the proposed operating budget remains pending until the council receives further information and takes up the matter again.
Council members also considered a rate increase request from Daynes.
At the recommendation of Enterprise Director Clinton Keller, Ward 1 Councilman Woodrow Polston made a motion not to grant the requested increase at this time, but to revisit the matter in 60 days while monitoring fuel cost trends.
That motion was also seconded and approved unanimously.
The Friday night meeting leaves two financial issues pending for the city: a proposed operating budget requiring additional police department budget information, and the Daynes rate request, which may return for consideration in approximately 60 days depending on fuel costs.
