LOUISIANA -- The Louisiana Public Library in Pike County, Missouri has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, recognizing its continued service as part of a historic network of community libraries across the country.
The funding comes through the Carnegie Libraries 250 initiative, a nationwide program honoring libraries originally established through the philanthropy of Andrew Carnegie. The effort celebrates the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence while highlighting the lasting impact of Carnegie-funded libraries still operating today.
The Louisiana Public Library is one of approximately 1,280 Carnegie libraries across the United States that remain active and continue serving their communities more than a century after they were first built. These libraries were originally funded in the late 1800s and early 1900s as part of Carnegie’s mission to expand public access to education and information.
Local officials say the grant will support continued operations and improvements at the Louisiana facility, helping ensure it remains a vital resource for residents in Pike County, Missouri.
