GREENFIELD — Mayor Brock Meyer on Thursday addressed ongoing community concerns about Meehan’s IGA, saying city officials and store ownership are working together on improvements and a potential relaunch of the grocery store.

In a public letter, Meyer said he has held multiple phone calls and in-person meetings with Meehan’s IGA ownership and management to bring concerns raised by residents directly to them. He said store leadership has acknowledged several “points of concern” and is exploring upgrades they believe will better serve Greenfield by modernizing the store.

Meyer wrote that faults in recent operations and miscommunication between store management and ownership are expected to be resolved in the coming months.

“These discussions have led to a more clear understanding of the needs and desires of our community,” Meyer said. “It is my intention to continue to work alongside ownership as they navigate the process of a hard reset, including a complete rebrand, store renovation, and more attention to the grocery portion of the store as well as employee relations.”

Meyer said he has been shown proposed new designs for the store’s direction, and assuming plans go forward as intended, the store could relaunch by summer 2026.

In his message, Meyer said his goal in sharing the update was to ensure residents know that officials “have heard your concerns, and that we, as a city, are actively responding.”

Meehan’s IGA remains open for business, and city leadership said store ownership is planning hiring across all departments for the coming period.
