CLARKSVILLE, Mo. — Flood warnings remain in effect along the Mississippi River at Louisiana, Clarksville, Saverton and Winfield as the river continues rising through the Twin Pikes and surrounding area.
The National Weather Service says minor flooding is either occurring or forecast at several river points. At Louisiana, the river is already above its 15-foot flood stage and is forecast to crest near 17 feet early Tuesday afternoon before falling below flood stage Thursday evening. At that level, the parking area at the boat house begins flooding.
At Clarksville, the river is also above flood stage and rising. Flood stage there is 25 feet, with forecasters calling for a crest near 27.1 feet early Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service says Silo Park northwest of Clarksville off Highway 79 begins flooding around 27.2 feet.
Minor flooding is also forecast at Saverton, where flood stage is 16 feet. Forecasters expect the river to crest near 16.7 feet early Tuesday afternoon before falling below flood stage Wednesday evening. At those levels, access roads to some riverside raised homes near the Sny levee can begin taking on water.
At Winfield, flood stage is 26 feet, with the river forecast to crest near 27 feet Wednesday evening before falling below flood stage early Friday morning. The
National Weather Service says Lock and Dam 25 begins preparing precautionary flood supplies at higher levels, including sand, sandbags and plastic sheeting.
The flooding is expected to remain in the minor category, but residents with riverfront property, farm ground, boat access, or travel plans near the Mississippi River are encouraged to keep monitoring updated forecasts.
Drivers are also reminded not to attempt to cross flooded roads. The National Weather Service says most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
