MURRAYVILLE — Construction on the new Murrayville-Woodson Grade School is experiencing minor delays due to recent cold and wet weather, but district officials say the project remains on track overall.
Assistant Superintendent Matthew Moore told the school board this week that weather conditions over the past couple of weeks have slowed progress slightly at the construction site located at Watertower Road and the Woodson Winchester Blacktop. However, Moore emphasized the delay is not a major concern at this stage of the project.
Despite the slowdown, the district still expects construction to be completed by June of next year, with the new school ready for students for the 2027–2028 academic year.
The official groundbreaking ceremony has also been delayed due to the weather. Moore said construction has already moved forward, and the groundbreaking will now serve as a ceremonial event rather than marking the actual start of work.
Funding for the project continues to remain strong, supported by a countywide sales tax dedicated to schools. Moore noted that revenue from the tax has remained healthy, helping ensure the project stays financially on track.
