PERRY MAN JAILED AFTER ALLEGED STRANGULATION AND PAROLE VIOLATION

PERRY, Ill. — A Perry man is being held in the Pike County, Illinois Jail following his arrest Sunday night on domestic battery and parole-related charges.

Phillip Embree, 35, was taken into custody after a family member contacted authorities at approximately 8 p.m. to report a disturbance involving Embree, his girlfriend, and his parents.

Embree is charged with unlawful restraint, resisting arrest, violating the conditions of his parole, and two counts of aggravated domestic battery.

Pike County, Illinois Sheriff David Greenwood said Embree allegedly became involved in an argument with his girlfriend and parents and made physical contact with multiple people. Embree is accused of choking his girlfriend and preventing her from leaving the residence.

The woman was eventually able to escape. Greenwood said Embree also resisted deputies as they attempted to take him into custody.

Embree had been incarcerated at the Big Muddy River Correctional Center since 2022 following convictions for delivering less than 15 grams of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a credit or debit card. He was released on parole in January 2026.

The Illinois Department of Corrections was expected to take custody of Embree because of the alleged parole violation.

The charges are allegations. Embree is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
