PITTSFIELD — Pittsfield High School is searching for a new head coach for its girls basketball program following the resignation of head coach Noah Mendenhall, who stepped down after two seasons leading the Lady Saukees.

Mendenhall said his decision came after a meeting with high school administrators earlier this week, during which he was informed there had been complaints from parents and players regarding conditioning, preparation, and coaching. According to Mendenhall, the complaints were described as confidential, and he questioned why the concerns were not shared with him earlier in the season. He said he was told the issues had been withheld until after the season concluded.

Mendenhall stated he was presented with the option to resign or be terminated. He also said he was told by Superintendent Russ Tepen that Tepen had recommended he be retained as head coach.

In a statement, Mendenhall said he has coached with a commitment to integrity, selflessness, and the personal growth of his student-athletes, but decided stepping away was in the best interest of the players. He said their well-being remains his top priority.

With the resignation, the Pittsfield girls basketball program will now be seeking its fourth head coach in the past five years. Mendenhall expressed hope the program can find long-term stability moving forward, saying he hopes there will be consistency in the years ahead.

School officials have not yet announced a timeline for filling the coaching vacancy.
