PITTSFIELD — The Pittsfield Police Department has introduced a new therapy dog to serve the community, with a focus on supporting local students and assisting during sensitive situations.
Dutchess, a German Shepherd and Labradoodle mix, will work alongside her handler, Sgt. Clint Weir. The pair will be active in all three schools in the district, offering comfort, emotional support, and a positive presence for students and staff.
In addition to her role in schools, Dutchess will also assist officers during incidents involving children, helping to provide calm and reassurance in stressful or traumatic situations. Police officials say the addition of a therapy dog is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen community relationships and support overall well-being.
The department says the program was made possible through significant financial contributions from Whitetail Properties and The Maschhoffs, helping bring the initiative to life.
Officials are encouraging the community to welcome Dutchess and Sgt. Weir as they begin their new role serving Pittsfield.
