SCOTT COUNTY — Drivers in Scott County will need to plan for a lengthy bridge closure beginning Monday.
The Hoots Road bridge over Interstate 72 is scheduled to close for reconstruction and is expected to remain closed through the end of August. The bridge is located between the Old U.S. 36 and I-72 interchange and the Illinois Route 100 and I-72 interchange.
The closure means local traffic that normally uses Hoots Road over I-72 will need to use alternate routes for nearly three months while work is underway.
Periodic lane closures on Interstate 72 underneath the bridge are also expected during the project. Drivers traveling through the area should be alert for work crews, changing traffic patterns, reduced lanes, and slower traffic near the bridge.
Transportation officials say the project is intended to create a smoother driving surface and extend the life of the bridge.
Drivers are being encouraged to allow extra time and use alternate routes whenever possible until the project is completed.
