PLEASANT HILL — The Pike County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the nonprofit organization Evan’s Voice to present a program focused on sextortion awareness and internet safety for students at Pleasant Hill High School.

The presentation is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on March 19 and will focus on educating students about the dangers of sextortion, online exploitation, and how to practice safe internet habits.

According to information released by the sheriff’s office, the program is designed to help young people better understand how online predators operate and how to protect themselves when using social media, messaging platforms, and other internet services.

In addition to the student program, a separate presentation for parents will be held later that evening at 6 p.m. in the Pleasant Hill High School cafeteria. Organizers say the parent session will provide guidance for families on recognizing warning signs of online exploitation and how to help protect children from internet-related dangers.

Officials say the goal of the presentations is to promote awareness and encourage conversations between students, parents, and educators about online safety.

The event is being supported by the Health and Wellness Foundation of Pike County, which helped make the program possible.

Organizers say the effort is part of a broader push to educate communities about the growing problem of sextortion and other forms of online exploitation targeting young people.
