GREENE COUNTY, IL — Officials with the Greene County State’s Attorney’s Office are highlighting April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, urging the public to listen, learn, and take action in supporting survivors and preventing abuse.

Sexual violence impacts individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and communities. Prosecutors say the month serves as a reminder to break the silence surrounding these crimes by promoting consent, challenging harmful behaviors, and standing with survivors.

The State’s Attorney’s Office emphasized its commitment to holding offenders accountable while also ensuring victims are treated with dignity and respect throughout the legal process. Officials say they continue working closely with law enforcement, advocates, and community partners to provide support and resources.

They add that increasing awareness is key to prevention, and education plays a major role in creating lasting change across communities.

Help is available 24 hours a day for those affected by sexual violence. Resources include the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault hotline at 217-753-8081, the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault hotline at 888-293-2080, and the national RAINN hotline at 800-656-4673 or online at rainn.org.
