LOUISIANA -- New procedures are being put in place for use of the Star Hill dumping grounds beginning June 1, after city officials reported problems with household trash, building materials, and other prohibited items being dumped at the site.

According to a public memorandum from City Administrator Cameron Carlile, the dumping grounds at the top of Star Hill have served the community for many years, but recent misuse has led the city to tighten procedures so the area can continue to be used properly in the future.

The city is reminding residents that only authorized items may be dumped at Star Hill. Examples listed in the memo include trees and yard trimmings. Household trash, building materials, and other prohibited materials are not allowed.

Beginning June 1, Star Hill will be open for dumping Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. During weekday hours, residents will need to check out a key at City Hall by filling out a checkout form.

On Saturdays, Star Hill will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the gate will remain open as normal.

The city also says a camera will be placed at the entrance to the dumping area to help ensure all materials being dumped are acceptable under Missouri Department of Conservation burning guidelines.

Residents with questions can call City Hall at 573-754-4132.
