PIKE COUNTY, Ill. — Residents across Pike County, Illinois are continuing cleanup and recovery efforts after powerful storms swept through the area late Friday, leaving behind significant damage in multiple communities.

In Griggsville, the storm caused widespread destruction, including uprooted trees in the city park and snapped utility poles near the railroad tracks on the south side of town. A major hit was reported at Lynch Livestock, where nearly half of the building’s roof was torn off, scattering debris hundreds of yards away.

Damage was also reported in Pleasant Hill and Pittsfield, where strong winds picked up and tossed several garden sheds an estimated 10 to 30 feet at Reel Net and Twine. The force of the storm caught many residents off guard with rapidly intensifying winds and heavy rain that made visibility nearly impossible at times.

Despite the destruction, community response has been strong. Neighbors, local firefighters, and volunteers quickly stepped in to help clear debris, remove downed limbs, and secure damaged homes. Residents say that sense of community has been critical in the immediate aftermath.

Power outages also remained a concern following the storm. As of Saturday evening, about 200 customers in Griggsville were still without electricity, with additional outages affecting parts of Pittsfield as crews worked to restore service.

Recovery efforts are ongoing as residents and local officials continue assessing damage and working to restore normal conditions across Pike County, Illinois.
