PITTSFIELD — After a stretch of winter chill, the Twin Pikes region is getting a taste of early spring as warmer temperatures settle in through the end of the week.

Afternoon highs are expected to climb well above seasonal averages, with sunshine and mild conditions dominating through Friday and into the weekend. Many communities across Pike County Illinois and Pike County Missouri could see temperatures pushing into the upper 50s and even 60s, offering a welcome break from recent cold snaps. Light winds and dry conditions should make for comfortable afternoons, ideal for getting outside, early yard work, or simply enjoying a break from winter coats.

However, the pattern looks to shift as we head into early next week. Forecast models indicate increasing rain chances beginning late Sunday or Monday, with a developing system bringing widespread showers to the region. Depending on how temperatures trend, there is also the potential for some winter weather on the backside of that system, particularly if colder air wraps in behind the rain. While it’s too early for specifics, forecasters are watching the possibility of a rain-to-snow transition or at least a brief mix early next week.

For now, residents are encouraged to take advantage of the warmer stretch while keeping an eye on updated forecasts as the new system approaches. In late February, swings between spring-like warmth and winter weather are not unusual in the Twin Pikes and Two Rivers region.

We’ll continue to monitor the changing conditions and provide updates as needed.
